Work Experience

Event and Communications Manager

Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Energy at JMU

January 2019 - Present

As the Events Manager, I plan, organize, and execute several types of events. Every spring, CASE hosts KidWind Challenge competitions across Virginia, wherein I will prepare by communicating with each venue, team, and other event-specific contacts such as volunteers, judges, and special guests. I also assist in the designing and ordering of the awards that each team receives. During the competitions, I maintain the order of events, each team's schedule, and catering arrangements for volunteers, as well as take photos for documentation and marketing efforts.

CASE also engages in the energy industry through participating in conferences around the state. In 2019, I was party to the planning, organizing, and execution of the first ever Virginia Clean Energy Summit, where the honorable Governor Ralph Northam signed and announced Executive Order 43. Industry professionals from Virginia, and even other states, attended a day-long conference where they discussed the several aspects of the current clean energy climate in the state and across the country. In 2021 we are anticipating a CASE-led conference for stakeholders, educators, and community members to learn and discuss more about renewable energy and sustainability, as well as a partnership with REpowering Schools and KidWind to produce a national level conference for STEM educators.

As the Communications Manager, I maintain the social media accounts and online presence of the Center. I also maintain and develop our alumni network through connecting with former JMU students who are working in the energy industry. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been gathering resources for STEM educators who are hosting virtual classrooms to utilize while they try to maintain the level of engagement and education they are used to.

Stylist

Bridal Impressions, Harrisonburg VA

December 2017 - September 2019

As a stylist for Bridal Impressions, I worked with brides who were searching for the perfect gown for their big day. An important part of my work was ensuring their comfort throughout their appointment, as well as encouraging them to see how beautiful and confident they are in the gowns they try on. Outside of appointments I assisted in digital marketing campaigns, general housekeeping, record filing/maintenance, and organization of the merchandise.

Facility Services Intern

My role as an intern in Facility Services at Massanetta Springs was to assist with the daily tasks of the department. These tasks included: housekeeping of event spaces and camp residencies, small facility maintenance requests, groundskeeping/landscaping, setting up and tearing down event spaces as requested, and front desk management.

In the spring semester of 2017 I became a Teaching Assistant for the Create A KidWind Challenge (CISE 498E / HON 200) course at JMU to prepare for the three Virginia Regional KidWind Challenges, as well as the Winner's Circle Nationals Review at JMU to prepare teams for their national challenge in Annaheim, CA in May.
